It will begin at Rajpur Road, Dehradun, and end at Koti Colony which is in Tehri. It will shorten the distance between the two locations’ travel times from 3:30 hours to just 1 hour, benefiting the tourism industry.
The Saklana Range of the Himalayas will be traversed by this new tunnel constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). once constructed, Dehradun- Tehri tunnel will be the longest tunnel project in India, measuring at least 35 kilometres, and would save a lot of time for the tourists and travelers visiting Tehri Lake.
According to NHAI officials, the total length of the tunnel will be 35 kilometers and its initial budget has been estimated at Rs 8,000 crore. The authority officials have started work on the alignment of the tunnel.
In this tunnel project, two double lane tunnels will be constructed till Tehri Lake. There will also be designated U-turns to reach from one tunnel to another in a length of 35 km.
